Erosion or wearing away of the teeth can be caused by over-consumption of acid drinks such as cola and even sparkling mineral water and fruit juices are extremely acidic. Toothbrushing should be carried before, not after eating. Another major cause of erosion is tooth grinding which is suffered by about 50% of the adult and child population, and leads to the destruction or fracturing of the teeth. Plaque bacteria is also extremely corrosive and if left on the teeth can lead to permanent damage.
When brushing teeth after eating we can sweep away the enamel from the tooth, this loss is permanent. Brushing before breakfast, and chewing gum after eating can help to reduce the number of bacteria.
